The demand for senior discounts continues to grow at an alarming rate thanks, in part, to the fact baby boomers are feeling the pinch of increased prices. From food to movies and even eye exams, there are all sorts of senior discounts available depending on where you live.

Although it is all too easy to dwell on the negative aspects of aging, too many of us overlook the fact that getting older means you have the time to do more and spend less for it. The best part is that some of these discounts apply for those who are as young as 50.

After the appointment with your New York Medicaid planning service, settle into a booth at Applebee’s and enjoy a 15 percent discount if you are aged 60 or over. If Applebee’s isn’t on your list of favorite eateries, there are numerous other places you can nosh at a discounted rate.

Taco Bell

Stop by any Taco Bell across this nation and enjoy a five percent discount and a free beverage for those aged 65 and older. This makes complete sense as you will need a refreshing Pepsi product to wash down that Crunchwrap Supreme and Double Chalupa.

In all seriousness, Taco Bell is the bomb as you can literally feed a family of five for under 20 bucks, including drinks and dessert. Seniors on a fixed income welcome inexpensive meals that fill them up and curb their Mexican food fix.

If you happen to be craving Mexican and Italian food simultaneously, mix your ethnicities and order the Mexican Pizza. We give it two thumbs up.

Village Inn

One of the perks of being retired is in the fact you can go out to breakfast any day of the week. So when you are craving pancakes and crepes, a quick trip to your local Village Inn is in order. And if you are aged 60 or older, you get to enjoy a 10 percent discount.

If Village Inn is a little too tame for your tastes, hit up Denny’s and enjoy 20 percent off for AARP members aged 55 and older. The great thing about Denny’s is that if you order the Slamburger, you are basically getting your breakfast and lunch all at once sandwiched in a toasted sesame seed bun. Yummy. For those who actually care about what they consume, Denny’s offers a Fit Fare menu with healthier choices.

Ben & Jerry’s

There are those times when you just have to have ice cream and there is no better place to get your fill than at Ben & Jerry’s. Not only will you get great tasting ice cream, you sound super hip ordering Bob Marley’s One Love, Chocolate Cherry Garcia and Urban Bourbon. Oh, and you get to enjoy 10 percent off if you are aged 60 or older.

Restaurants and other types of eateries aren’t the only places that give discounts to seniors, plenty of retail outlets offer deals as well.

Kohl’s

If you need a new outfit to wear for your dinner outings at Applebee’s, you might want to see what is available at Kohl’s. Kohl’s offers a wide range of clothing styles for men and women with a 15 percent discount for those aged 60 and older.

Banana Republic

If Applebee’s doesn’t appeal to you and you are way too hip to shop at Kohl’s, then get the latest fashionable clothes offered at the Banana Republic. Just because you are a senior citizen does not mean you have to dress like an old man or old woman.

Rite Aid

The marketing geniuses at Rite Aid nailed it with their senior discounts. Not only do seniors enjoy 10 percent off on Tuesdays, they also get 10 percent off prescriptions all of the time. So depending on the medications you take and how many medications you are on, this can add up to significant savings.

Movie Theaters

After dinner at Applebee’s and ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s, a movie is a pleasant way to end an entertaining evening. Most movie theaters offer discounts to seniors, some offer as much as 35 percent off. Check your local movie theater to see what discounts they offer seniors.

Seniors also enjoy discounts for cell phone services, at hair salons and even at fitness centers, so it really does pay to be old sometimes.
