You have been looking forward to retirement for a very long time. Through the years, you would sit at your desk and daydream about a life without alarm clocks, meetings and Andy, the IT guy. Well, the time is finally here when you can sleep until noon, log into your email account in your pajamas and never have to listen to Andy say “it just needs a hard reset” ever again. You are now retired.
So, you think to yourself as you sip on coffee while looking at the world rushing by outside, this is what it’s like being retired. Then it hits you; you don’t want to sleep until noon or check your email in your pajamas, you want to keep yourself busy. You want to be social and talk to other people, even if it is Andy. You need a plan, a list of things to do as a retiree. Your New York Medicaid planning service can help. Here are some tips to help you enjoy retirement.
Travel
According to several studies, travel is one of the goals people look forward to when they retire. Some 70 percent of retirees say that travel has improved their mood and helped them enjoy life. Sometimes money or health issues can put a damper on travel plans, but remember that you don’t need to take an expensive and exhausting trip overseas. A fun trip can be a weekend at the beach or a trip to see kids and grandkids.
Try Something New
Instead of sitting around the house all day watching Food Network and show like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, sign up for a cooking course and channel Guy Fieri. Enroll in a cooking course and learn how to properly whisk those yolks into hollandaise, how to prepare a proper rub for brisket and how to flip an egg without using a spatula. Then show off your skills by having a cookout at your place. Welcome to Flavortown.
You could also take an art class and release your inner Pollack, attend a yoga class and find your inner peace or learn how to play bass guitar and start your very own death metal band. You could call your music group Death Before Depends.
Make New Friends
While talking to Andy, the IT guy on occasion is fine, you should really get out there and meet new, like-minded people. Of course, one way of doing this is through social media, finding new people on Facebook, Twitter or whatever social media you happen to use.
Of course, you could meet people the traditional way. by attending social functions like church groups or ice cream socials. You could also hang out at a bar, whatever means to meet new people is fine. It also helps if you are a member of a death metal band.
Do Nothing
Sometimes there is too much focus on the importance of going out and being real active. Sometimes it’s perfectly fine to kick back at home and practice your bass.
